FortisBC Energy Efficiency for Rental Apartments and Accommodations Program

The FortisBC Energy Efficiency for Rental Apartments and Accommodations Program helps property managers and owners of purpose built rental buildings, hotels, motels and private retirement and care homes make changes to save money, energy and water.

Eligibility requirements

Your building must:

• Be a purpose-built rental (apartment building, hotel or motel or private retirement or care home) containing a minimum of nine units
• Receive natural gas and/or electricity under a commercial rate class from FortisBC or municipal electricity of Grand Forks, Penticton, Summerland and Nelson Hydro
• Have central electric or natural gas water heating 
• Not be slated for demolition
• Not have water-efficient showerheads and aerators previously installed in the rental suites

How to apply

1. Carefully read the Energy efficiency for rental apartments and accommodations program – Terms and conditions to confirm your eligibility.
2. Apply online for the Rental Apartment Efficiency Program.
3. Allow a minimum of 30 days to process your application.
4. If your application is approved, FortisBC will contact you to schedule a date for the building energy assessment and the direct installation of showerheads and faucet aerators. Installations will happen on a weekday.

• If your building already uses upgraded efficiency showerheads and aerators, you can still take advantage of FortisBC’s other programs such as the incentives on commercial water heaters and efficient boilers.
